The U.S. Grains Council welcomes you to “The Grain Board.” The U.S. Grains Council, founded in 1960, is a nonprofit partnership of U.S. farmers and agribusinesses committed to building and expanding international markets for U.S. barley, corn, grain sorghum and their products. The Council is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has nine international offices that oversee programs in more than 50 countries. Financial support from our private industry members, including state checkoffs, agribusinesses, state entities and others triggers federal matching funds from the USDA. The Council is rooted in the past but focused on the future in order to increase profitability for U.S. farmers while assisting in curbing global hunger. This blog was created to serve as a sounding board for the latest trade developments, U.S. agriculture, Council happenings and whatever else comes to mind. We encourage you to comment on the postings, ask questions and share with your friends. Posts on "The Grain Board" are produced by U.S. Grains Council staff and invited guests. Feel free to contact the bloggers at thegrainboard@grains.org.

2009 Harvest in Pictures

By Mike Deering, director of communications

We asked U.S. farmers and anyone else that had a camera handy to send your harvest photos to the U.S. Grains Council. You delivered and we have several photos of the harvesting of food, feed and fuel for the United States and abroad. Check out all of the fantastic photos on our Flickr page. Check the Flickr page frequently for additional photos. The picture to the right was taken by Dave Roehm, a farmer from Leesburg, Ohio. Dave is also a Council delegate and an Advisory Team member while serving as Chairman of the Ohio Corn Marketing Program.

Don't forget to keep on sending photos. The deadline isn't until Dec. 1, 2009. Every photo we get is an entry for a free Council meeting registration for our 7th International Marketing Conference and 50th Annual Membership Meeting in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Feb. 13-17, 2010.

The Council will assume the rights of submitted entries for use in publications and online. Entries must be JPEG files. Submit your entries along with your contact information and brief photo captions via e-mail to thegrainboard@grains.org by Dec 1. You may also mail entries in a CD or jump drive to Melisa Augusto at 1400 K St. NW, Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20005.
